Two models are presented: an existing three-stage innovation model based on Deming’s PDSA cycle that includes aspects of effective teambuilding, new services and products development and an evaluation model. A driving force within the innovation model is the creation of a process of intrapreneurship based on action learning, an approach that addresses organisational development issues faced in the development of intrapreneurship. The case study presents the innovation model in use, examples of the organisation’s value systems and an evaluation of intrapreneurship as a method of innovation and organisational transformation via a second model. This second model combines Deming’s system of profound knowledge and PDSA cycle with the organisational change and development philosophies of Argyris. The outcome provides insight into the management and operational aspects of cooperation, collaboration and intrapreneurship within the healthcare sector as a means of obtaining a competitive advantage.
