| Abstract | This book offers a range of emergent perspectives about learning through and for work. The common focus among these perspectives is to understand how individuals engage in and learn through their work. This includes how they learn about, manage and respond to change in their work and develop approaches and responses to learning in, through and for their working lives. A clear understanding of these processes is required to support learning throughout working life in order to sustain individuals' capacities for effective, productive and enduring working lives. Realising these goals requires the development not only of individuals' capacities to initially participate in working life and in defined occupational roles, but also those capacities required to be competent across working lives. This includes being able to effectively meet or respond to the particular yet changing requirements of work and workplaces, and successfully negotiate transitions from one workplace settings to others and across occupations. Given the constant changes to work and work requirements in present times, most adults will experience workplace and occupational transitions within their working lives, perhaps now more frequently than in the past. |
