Australia’s coastal zone is both unique and fragile. Coastal environments are dynamic, complex and interdependent. For the vast majority of Australian’s we are a coastal nation. Over 90% of our national population are located in the coastal zone and all but one of Australia’s capital cities are located on the coast (Australian Bureau of Statistics, 2004).
