| Abstract | The nature and causes of the current global crisis continue to generate substantial debate, including over whether it is primarily a financial crisis, an economic crisis, a crisis of political legitimacy or some combination of all. While the roots of the crisis may well lie in the rapid expansion of an unsustainable financial regime it clearly became a more wide ranging economic crisis, posing substantial challenges to the financial rectitude of many governments and to the legitimacy of at least some superficial aspects of the capitalist mode of production. |
