Abstract One of the most important issues for the Electric Vehicle (EV) is the duration of its recharging time. Varieties of charging standards have been developed for the EV which consume high levels of energy while charging quickly. However, existing transformers used in the charging system are usually bulky and inefficient. This paper introduces two types of isolated High Frequency (HF) transformers: (1) planar transformer; and (2) coaxial transformer with > 99% power efficiency. They are suited for use in the EV because of their small size, compact structure, power range and energy efficiency.
