While there has been interest in this area in terms of its role in corporate social responsibility (CSR) and sustainable business practices it is still a fertile area for investigation. Through previous research an SME with strong credentials in the practise of CSR and sustainability has been identified. Within the analysis of a qualitative case study based on this business a link between leadership and the successful uptake of CSR and sustainability was found. By exploring this link and the transformations that occurred in the business journey to sustainability it has been possible to model Hersey and Blanchard's situational leadership theory to the process. These findings provide a platform for further research on effective ways of both understanding and developing CSR and sustainable practice within the SME context.
