This paper provides an overview of all known publicly available research addressing the extent of men's experiences of same-sex intimate partner violence. Overall, it would seem that intimate partner violence is not just a problem for heterosexual couples. Violence between male same-sex male intimates also occurs at an alarmingly high rate, help is rarely sought from community service providers or police and when it is sought, the 'help' given is not particularly useful. Violence between male same-sex male intimates also occurs at an alarmingly high rate, help is rarely sought from community service providers or police and when it is sought, the 'help' given is not particularly useful. This paper also summarises research outcomes with regard to: patterns of male same-sex partner violence, context within which it occurs, its impact on victims and the reasons why men stay with their violent partners. A challenge is issued to the general social science community and, in particular, the criminological community, to end the relative research 'silence' surrounding the matter of male same-sex intimate partner violence in Australia.
